Cat’s urine has a higher uric acid and urea volume relative to most urine mammals.
Cats consume lots of protein and do not drink plenty of water, making pee cats smell worse yet. It’s one of the best to extract smells. The scent will come back until you think it’s completely gone.
A cat’s urine odour may last as long as possible- and the straight answer would be it can last forever!

Do Cat Urine Odour Last Forever? Brain-Tickling Facts
1. Nasty Kitty
Have you ever spruced your cat or had an “accident” on the tap, the couch or the bedding, so that you could not get rid of an awful smell?
For pet owners it’s a basic dilemma – one which isn’t quickly fixed.
This is what happens here. What happens here? If the problem is solved, you clean the place.
Yet the dreadful scent of cat Urine mysteriously returns – days, weeks or months later…
And it’s much more effective this time than previously!
Two explanations for the urinary odours resurface:
- A part of the pee cannot be eliminated by washing. These deposits don’t go away, no matter what you do.
- “Somewhere” in your house often reactivates these tanks, and the scent of the urine comes back. The “anything” is moisture.
Your cat might be crying like a baby at night due to urine problems!
The sensitivity of odour sensors is enhanced by humidity. The wetter your home, the greater will be the smell.
Over the summer, indoor moisture levels rise. Dampness is also the source of everyday tasks such as cooking, showering, drying and clothing.
And as the level of indoor humidity increases, the dormant urine pools reactivate and the awful smell comes back.
2. Nature Of Cat Urine
Three different sections are made up of urine. The first part – the adhesive liquid material – is taken away by several cleaning products.
Some also delete the second part – the pigmentation that produces stain. But the third part – the crystals of uric acid or urine salts, which create fumes, is removed by none.
It can look like pee is gone whether you disinfect or handle the place and the stain or the odour is gone. Yet there’s always the urine salts.
Urine salts have no fragrance in their dry state. However, moisture reactivates the crystals as they get damp or muddy, and urine odour returns – with retribution.
I’ve learned from pet owners who ended up substituting for their furniture or their furniture. We would not, particularly in the today’s economy, want to do that.
The good news is that we have discovered and used a better, quicker alternative. You would use a urine odour neutralising substance to keep it from haunting you.
Our preferred substance is Zero Taste, not merely “masking” smells – it removes them.
Zero Odour functions in ways where other items struggle because it otherwise attacks odour. The molecular composition of the odour compounds is chemically modified. And these molecules, in this new form, can no longer smell.
3. Urine On Surface Problems
That potent— or so long-lastingly—as cat piss, I’m very sure there’s no scent. I wanted to get rid of the stench all of the home remedies and found winners that spared everything the cat decided was the litter box on that day.
Wash the washing machine, as usual, and then leave it in the washer. Set up the laundry to soak with the warm water and apply 2 cups of baking soda to the load.
If your laundry machine has no soaking mode, turn on your washer, allow warm water to fill up, then stop loading.
Enable the load to soak overnight and wash it as usual. Everything should come out fresh smelling.
She will be on our couch for a while my daughter’s cat was stressed. So I can’t fire it, but just I can’t get the smell out no matter just what I washed it. Mattresses are pricey. I discovered the secret of bakery soda at last.
Sprinkle baked soda onto the spot that smells after you have purified the mattress and made it dry. Nor is it just a dusting.
I mean the bakery with soda on really layer. Place your sheet on the mattress again. Sit on the spot a few days in the baking soda.
Don’t worry; sleep on your bed is always possible. The sheet stops bakery soda from touching the whole bedroom.
After the baking soda has been able to work dirty, just vacuum the mate. Is that a place of freshness radiant? You bet it is. You bet it is.
Investing in a fabric waterproof paint cover if your cat has a trouble using your bed as a gift box (the plastic ones are super uncomfortable and hot).
It’s saving the mattress and washing it is much better. Use just the same method of washing as clothes.
Like peeing, pooping under the bed might become another inevitable problem!
4. Peeing Every Here And There
Man cats prefer to map their territories and sometimes it is impossible to identify the area they sprayed. If you cannot find the location, make a cat bottle of pee-gone; shampoo the tapes, slippers or anything else you need to do to clean up the suspicious spot.
In a spray bottle, combine 16 ounces (500 mL) warm water and 10 drops of essential peppermint oil or two table cubes of peppermint extract.
Sprinkle any places that could have been urinated or labelled in your pet. The smell is gone in a matter of hours.
Before using the pee-be-gone solution on carpets, rugs, chairs, or other surfaces, try it on a small area to ensure the object won’t be discoloured.

Prevention Of Cat Urine Odour
When cats tinkle in ways they shouldn’t, that usually means they’re trying to connect with you.
Any of the things they may be attempting to suggest are:
- They don’t like where their cat box is located; they want several boxes; the box isn’t clean enough; and they hate the litter.
- They may be suffering from a medical problem.
The only way to prevent cat odours from reaching your home is to deter them from entering in the first place. Maintain a sterile litter box and apply baking soda to absorb odours.
Try eventually moving your pet to a diet that can minimise hairballs and urinary problems if she appears to be experiencing urinary stress issues (causing her to have accidents) or is continually coughing up hairballs all over your home.
The majority of animal odours in your home are caused by body fluids, but it’s also important not to let cat fur build up in your home, as this can cause cat odour.
Mix a fabric softener with water in a spray bottle and gently sprinkle the surface to quickly remove cat fur from upholstery.
After spraying the floor, scoop up and scrape the cat fur with dampened rubber gloves.
If you supply your cat with nutritious food, a clean litter box, and daily cleaning, you will typically keep your house smelling fresh and clean.
If you need a temporary cure to use products like air fresheners, make sure they are pet-safe so you don’t end up with more issues than you begin with.
The uric acid will be broken down and evaporated, and your house will be free of cat odours after washing the region completely with bleach and then administering an enzyme solution.
Vinegar and enzyme cleaners are useful on a number of materials, including hardwood floors, carpets, and mattresses.
But keep in mind that different types of flooring and fabrics respond differently to cleaners, so always evaluate a small area first.
One thing to keep in mind is that you can never use a steam cleaner or heat on cat urine spills or spots. It has the ability to set the stain, making it more difficult to clean.
If you’ve already steam washed the rugs or mattresses, repeat the enzyme procedure a few times.
Bad odours tend to persist longer in garments and carpets, necessitating several remedies.
Whatever the problems may be arising, you just cannot crate a cat at night!
Frequently Asked Questions
Does cat pee smell ever go away?
Uric acid, present in cat urine, will last for years in carpets, garments, and wood! While baking soda, vinegar, bleach, and hydrogen peroxide can temporarily block the odours, a humid day can allow the uric acid to re-crystallize, bringing back the notorious “cat odour.”
How long does a cat scent last?
The odour will persist for up to three days. Depending on the wind, cats can sniff for up to a mile. Then make the scent strip and “Cat Chum” (described below) trails back to your house and/or traps in the most clear and secure way possible. Scent strips and Cat Chum should not be put on top of each other.
What kills the odor of cat urine?
Put an end to it! Then use an enzymatic cleaner or make your own cleaning solution by adding equal parts (white or apple cider) vinegar and water. The acidity of the vinegar will neutralise the bacteria in the cat urine, masking the odour.
Does vinegar and baking soda get rid of cat urine smell?
Enable for ten minutes after sprinkling baking soda over the affected area. Pour some vinegar on the baking soda and wait a few seconds for it to fizz before blotting the mixture with a clean rag. It’s time to get rid of the odour until the environment seems to be clear.
Will bleach kill cat pee smell?
After cleaning the urine-stained carpeting, you might consider using bleach to disinfect the concrete surfaces, but bleach will not remove the odour. It actually destroys germs. Bleach is unhealthy to inhale, and it’s also poisonous to your pets.
Does rain wash away cat scent?
Decorate your porch or deck with bedding. The contents of your litter boxes can be strewn across the yard’s perimeter. Note the rain will wash out the fragrance, so save some of the contents for later depositing. Since cats have such a keen sense of smell, you won’t need much of it to be successful.
Final Words
To stop potential stinky problems, contact your doctor to rule out any medical concerns and decide whether the litter box is the root of the problem.
